FAQs

General Questions

What are clear aligners?

Clear aligners are orthodontic devices designed to move your teeth using the gentle application of pressure. Unlike traditional braces, aligners are easily removed for cleaning and eating and they are discreet. Most people can’t tell you are wearing them.

How do Strayt clear aligners work?

We use a digital scan or impression to create a digital model of your teeth. We then use advanced software to make small, sequential changes in the position of the teeth and fabricate aligners to correspond with each stage.

What are Strayt aligners made of?

Strayt clear aligners are made of a highly transparent, bio-compatible, medical grade, thermoplastic polymer film.

Do Strayt aligners follow the contour of my gums?

Strayt aligners are scalloped to follow the gum line. This is the most comfortable and discreet wearing experience.

How do I know if Strayt is right for me?

Strayt is designed to work for minor to moderate alignment, including correcting spacing and crowding between teeth, rotation and minor bite correction. Photos and your digital scan data will give us the information we need to know if you are a good candidate for Strayt. If you’re not a good candidate, you pay nothing.

How long does it take for Strayt to straighten my teeth?

Every case is different. Typical treatment time is 4-8 months with 6 months being average.

Is there a minimum age requirement?

Patients that are younger than 18 will need permission from a legal guardian.

Your Health

I just had my wisdom teeth removed. Is it too soon to start Strayt?

That should be determined by your surgeon and/or general dentist, but we don’t recommend doing it within 6 weeks of your procedure. You might be able to start sooner if your surgeon says it’s okay, but we would ask for a signed release from the office where you had the procedure done.

I still have my wisdom teeth. Is it safe to start Strayt?

Our foremost concern is successful patient outcomes. We won’t accept your case if you’re not a good candidate. Always follow your dentist’s recommendation. If they think you need to have your wisdom teeth removed, take care of that first. Then Strayt can take care of your alignment for you.

Can I do Strayt if I have a dental implant?

It’s possible in most cases. Implants will not move like natural teeth so this is information we collect form our patients before we begin the treatment planning process.

Can I use aligners if I have missing teeth?

It’s possible. Our orthodontists will use your photos and scan data to make a determination. As always, you pay nothing if you are not a good candidate.

Will my teeth hurt while I’m Straytening?

A little, probably. We use advanced thermoplastic polymers that are proven to minimize discomfort for the wearer. However, some discomfort is normal for most patients during orthodontic treatment. The anti-inflammatory red light therapy in our StraytVIBES™ device will minimize discomfort.

Are aligners safe to wear if I’m pregnant?

It’s not unsafe, but we want you to be aware that pregnancy can cause your teeth to shift, which means you could need new impressions and aligners. Some people find aligning uncomfortable during pregnancy. We recommend waiting until you’re not pregnant to get Strayt.

Digital Scans

How do I schedule my scan appointment?

Visit www.straytteeth.com and use the ‘book your scan’ button to register for your scan appointment consultation. The scan specialist nearest you will contact you to confirm the details of your appointment.

Where is the best place to get scanned?

Whether your place or ours, the best place is wherever you feel most comfortable. A private office, cubicle space, conference room, or even a break room at work are all ideal settings. We're happy to come to your home too. Or, if those options don't work for you, we can schedule the scan at one of our partner locations.

Do I need to take pictures of my teeth?

Yes, and no. We’ll take the needed clinical pictures during your scan appointment. When confirming your scan appointment, your scan specialist will ask you to text or email them a basic smile selfie to help them identify any obvious conditions that might prevent you from being a candidate for clear aligner therapy.

Do scans hurt?

No. Unlike do-it-yourself impressions, scans are:
   • Fast. About one fifth the time of self-impressions
   • Comfortable
   • Accurate
   • Done by a professional
   • Not stressful. No worrying you did it wrong. No watching a stopwatch every step of the way

Will my teeth hurt while I’m Straytening?

A little, probably. We use advanced thermoplastic polymers that are proven to minimize discomfort for the wearer. However, some discomfort is normal for most patients during orthodontic treatment.

Can I see what I’ll look like when I’m done with Strayt?

Yes. We’ll send you a treatment plan preview.

Evaluation

We don’t charge for your scan. A $98 credit card hold confirms the appointment. The credit card hold will be released after your appointment and you will not be charged.

Why do I need to provide payment info to confirm my scan appointment?

While there is no charge for the scan, we reserve the right to charge $98 for no-shows. That is one reason why require a credit card pre-authorization to confirm the scan. The second reason is for the safety of our scan specialists. Unfortunately, there are some weirdos out there.

Can my insurance pay for Strayt?

We accept FSA and HSA card payments. If your dental plan provides orthodontic benefits, you may be reimbursed directly from your insurance company after purchasing your aligners. We don’t accept direct payment from insurance companies, but we can get you the forms you need to file your claim. Contact us for more details or to see if you qualify.

Treatment Plan

Which plan is right for me?

When deciding whether to go with Strayt Clear Aligners (all-day wear) or Strayt Night Aligners™ (10 continuous hours out of every 24 hours) it really comes down to priorities. If completing your treatment quickly is your highest priority, then we recommend the all-day wear option. If you're not in such a hurry and just want the easiest possible experience, the Strayt Night Aligners™ are definitely for you. Strayt Night Aligners™ prescriptions typically take twice as long as all-day wear prescriptions.

Can I see what I’ll look like when I’m done with Strayt?

Yes. We’ll send you a treatment plan preview.

Does a licensed dentist or orthodontist review my case?

Yes. Every treatment plan is overseen and approved by an orthodontist. Many dentists are qualified to administer clear aligner therapy too, but orthodontists specialize in the movement of teeth.

How long does it take for Strayt to straighten my teeth?

It depends on which options your take, and every case is different. Typical treatment time for our all-day wear aligners is 4-8 months with 6 months being average. Our Strayt Night Aligners™ take about twice as long because you wear them for about half the time each day.

Can I use invisible aligners on only my upper or lower teeth?

In some cases, yes. But it is rare that we are able to treat a single arch without also making the corresponding movements in the other arch.

Why don’t my aligners cover my molars?

We make your aligners to fit your mouth without getting in your way. It might not be necessary to move your back teeth to get the results you want.

How often should I wear my aligners?

As often as possible. It is important that you follow the instructions provided. For our all-day wear prescription, you should only take your aligners out for eating, cleaning, and drinking liquids other than water. For our Strayt Night Aligners™, you must wear the aligners continuously for a minimum of 10 hours out of every 24 hours. For most people this is in the evening and while they sleep.

When should I change my aligners? Morning or evening?

We recommend changing your aligners at night before bed.

Are there any visits to a dental office during treatment?

No office appointments are required with Strayt. However, you should keep your regular cleaning appointment and definitely go and see your dentist if other dental issues arise during your treatment.

What happens if I lose an aligner?

Not a big deal. If your aligner gets lost or damaged, you can order a replacement for $99. While you’re waiting for your replacement aligner, wear the previous one so you don’t lose progress. To order a replacement, contact us.

What happens after my invisible aligner treatment is complete?

You wear your retainers. This is really important because you want to make sure you keep your teeth in place. For the first two weeks, you’ll need to wear them all the time (except when you eat and drink). After that, you can wear them only while you sleep at night.

How do I preserve my new smile after treatment?

You wear your retainers. This is really important because you want to make sure you keep your teeth in place. For the first two weeks, you’ll need to wear them all the time (except when you eat and drink). After that, you can wear them only while you sleep at night.

How do I change my email or mailing address on file?

Contact us to make sure we have your currently info on file.

Does my purchase include free teeth whitening?

Yes. We think straight teeth should be bright and healthy-looking, so we include a premium teeth whitening system with your aligners.

How do I know when to switch aligners?

Instructions will be provided to you. We suggest setting up reminders as soon as you receive your aligners.

If I am sick, should I keep wearing my aligners?

Yes, it’s fine to keep wearing them unless you’re severely ill or actively vomiting. If you happen to vomit with your aligners in, you should take them out and clean them right away.

Whom do I contact if I'm having a dental emergency?

For dental emergencies, contact your local dentist or call 911.

How do I clean my aligners?

Instructions will be provided. Clean them each time your remove them to avoid residue build up. Rinse under cool water, then brush with your toothbrush. NO TOOTHPASTE as it can be abrasive and scratch the aligner. Our whitening foam will also help keep your aligners clean.

Can I use teeth whitening gel in my aligners?

Yes. The whitening foam provided can be used up to 4 times per day. It will also help keep your aligners clean and your breath fresh. We don’t recommend using another whitening gel because it could damage your aligners.

Can I smoke while wearing my aligners?

Smoking will discolor your aligners, as it does your teeth. We strongly recommend not smoking.

Can I drink alcohol while wearing my aligners?

No. You’ll need to remove your aligners if you’re eating or drinking anything other than water.

Can I skip ahead?

Please do not move ahead under any circumstances. If you have concerns about your treatment plan is progressing, please contact us.

What happens if things aren't improving as promised?

If you have any concerns at any time, just let us know. If your teeth are not tracking to plan mid-treatment, we may need to re-scan you and provide new aligners. There will be no cost for this as long as you have been following the treatment plan.

Other FAQs

Where does Strayt ship?

Currently, Strayt is only available in the contiguous U.S.

Can friends or family members get scanned too?

We encourage you to invite friends or family members to join you at your scan appointment. We can scan them too right then and there. There is no cost or obligation to them to proceed with treatment, but if they do, both of you will receive a discount off your treatment.

I wasn’t a candidate in the past, but now I’ve addressed the concerns. Can we revisit the idea?

Yes. If you’ve recently made changes to your mouth that might change your eligibility for Strayt, we can re-evaluate your case. Book a scan and we’ll take a look.

How can I reduce the soreness?

Soreness means teeth are moving so some soreness is a good thing. If you lifted weights for the first time without some soreness, you probably didn’t lift hard enough and thus won’t see any results. Tylenol should take care of it. If not, give us a call.

How long should the soreness last?

It’s normal to feel some soreness for a few days when you start wearing a new aligner. It will typically subside fairly quickly. Tylenol will help in the meantime.

My aligner has a crack. What should I do?

Call us. We’ll get you a replacement.

I don’t think my aligners fit. What should I do?

Call us. We’re here to help.

My bite feels "off" with the aligners out, what should I do?

Will the aligners fix my TMJ problems?

No, Strayt aligners are not designed to address TMJ.
